Wilderness Trips

For Teen Wilderness Trips

We are delighted that you would like to send your child to Chewonki. To enroll your child, please use the link below to complete an online registration, or download and complete the registration form and mail it to Chewonki. CampMinder, our database partner, supports our online application. Here are the steps to register:

  1. Submit registration form and deposit online or download form and register by mail.
  2. Submit financial aid application
  3. Await director confirmation letter to confirm enrollment in program.

Please note that submitting a registration form online or through the mail does not automatically enroll your child in a Chewonki program. Once your registration has been received, the director will review it for appropriate program placement. Please note that the director may contact you with questions to ensure the most appropriate program placement for your child or to make you aware of a waiting list for the program.

ENROLLMENT CONFIRMATION
Once the director has made a program determination, you will receive an acknowledgement letter formally welcoming your child to the program. Along with this letter, you will receive additional information regarding payment due dates and health forms. No deposits will be processed until the director confirms the registration.

PAYMENT
We require a $700 deposit at the time of registration ($100 for scholarship applicants), which is applied toward tuition. Chewonki accepts checks, credit cards (MasterCard and Visa), and monetary wire transfers. Please call our business office at (207) 882-7323 ext. 134 to answer any questions about tuition payment.

FINANCIAL AID
Campers and counselors come from all over the country and the world, representing a variety of interests and backgrounds. We hope that each camper learns to respect ideas and cultures that may differ from their own. A scholarship program allows us to offer the Chewonki experience to a wide cross-section of participants. Campers are accepted without regard to race, color or national origin.

This application and the calculations used are based on those used by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid. Please return the form directly to us. This is a confidential financial statement. Please base your figures on your current tax forms if available. If not, use your previous figures with any notes attached, particularly of any significant changes. Fill out the form completely and as accurately as possible, remembering to include in item #23, the amount you feel is available from your sources for tuition this summer. Most funds awarded are partial tuitions. The maximum awards made assume full need but still require a minimum payment of $600.

PLEASE NOTE: the application deadline is FEBRUARY 15. We may not be able to make awards until March, but the sooner we have your application on file, the easier it will be for us to ensure we have all of the necessary information. For families who are new to Chewonki, we also ask for two references on the application form.

IMPORTANT: Most applicants have already completed the Registration /Agreement Form indicating their program and session choice. In order to save space in the proper program, a completed Registration/Agreement form and a refundable $100 deposit are requested if you have not already done so. It may be best to call ahead for available spaces if you have not already completed your registration and reserved a space. Scholarship requests usually far exceed the amount of funds available; therefore we cannot guarantee funds to all that apply.

REGISTRATION AGREEMENT ( families are to sign off on these policies annually when enrolling their child)

Tuition: We enclose a non-refundable registration fee of $700 (or $100 and request for financial assistance) to be credited to the tuition for the camp program stated above.  We understand that half of the remaining tuition is due by February 1 and the balance by May 1.

New Participant Acceptance: We ask that all first-time Chewonki participants have a short phone conversation with an appropriate program director or assistants (Boys Camp, Girls Camp, Wilderness Programs) to gauge appropriate program placement before acceptance is confirmed.

Essential Functions: The fundamental nature of Chewonki's programs require that your child be able to meet their own personal hygiene needs, be responsible for their own person and belongings, and be able to work cooperatively in a group setting.

Health: We understand that Chewonki requires participants to have a health examination by a licensed physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner within the past two years. In addition, Chewonki requires a medical history form including a record of immunizations signed by a parent/guardian and a copy of your health provider card.

Please be specific about any food, dietary, or health concerns that may affect your child s ability to fully participate.

Has participant previously seen, or is presently seeking, medical assistance for any physical or mental health problems?

General Expectations and Standards: In all Chewonki programs, trust, communication, honesty, and integrity are keys to a successful community. Although some expectations and standards may be decided within each group, there are others that are simply not negotiable that relate to health, welfare and safety of the participants and the Chewonki community.  In addition, the following are absolutely prohibited by participants in Chewonki programs:

Any illegal activity
Possession of firearms
The use and/or possession of illegal drugs and/or alcohol
The use of any tobacco products (Chewonki has a non-smoking/tobacco free campus; this includes all staff and participants while on campus or on scheduled trips.)

Note: Please note that we are no longer able to honor requests to place friends in the same cabin.

Withdrawals: The family is responsible for the entire tuition if participant withdraws after May 15, arrives late for camp or leaves early. If a participant leaves a program early due to illness or injury, the tuition will not be refunded but may be pro-rated or applied to a program* by the end of the next calendar year. Alternate programs are not available at Chewonki if a camper is unable to continue in the program for which they are registered. If you have any questions regarding appropriate placement, please consult with the Directors.

*Tuition refund insurance is available for purchase. Contact us for more information.
Dismissals: Chewonki reserves the right to send home, without tuition reduction or refund, any participant who does not comply with camp or trip standards.

A non-refundable $700 deposit must accompany this registration form to guarantee placement if space is available. Otherwise, a check for $100 and request for a scholarship application should be sent (applications will be sent in January), and placements will be made based on need, time of completed application, and space available. Please make checks payable to Chewonki Foundation, Inc.
