Long Trail (ages 15-17)
Five-Week
The 270-mile Long Trail is the oldest continuous hiking trail in the U.S. and was the inspiration for the Appalachian Trail. Its rugged terrain, steep ascents, and long, breathtaking ridges extend the length of Vermont, from the Massachusetts border in the south to the Canadian border in the north. The trip is a unique opportunity for experienced hikers to further their accomplishments and learn what it takes to plan and complete a successful and rewarding thru-hike. Over the course of five weeks, we will summit five 4,000-foot peaks, walk miles of exposed ridgeline, and enjoy a rest day at a farm in central Vermont, helping out in exchange for a fresh meal. Interested participants must have previous extended backpacking experience.
Maine Appalachian Trail Backpack (ages 14-17)
Three-Week
The Appalachian Trail through Maine is considered by many to be the most challenging and remote section of the footpath that begins in Georgia. Eight participants and two leaders will spend three weeks traveling through this magnificent area, spending between four and six days above treeline. Participants will learn low-impact camping techniques and will experience the wild beauty of this delicate subalpine area. Each three-week trip will cover a different section of the trail in Maine.
