Chewonki offers unique educational experiences for our schools during the winter months. Groups sleep overnight in our canvas, wood heated yurts and explore the world of winter across our 400-acre peninsula.

Winter is a magical time to explore and investigate the natural world. Through experiential learning students examine the many adaptations that plants and animals have developed for surviving Maine’s harsh winter conditions. Students can track animal paths through the forest on snowshoe, investigate the unique properties of snow and ice and learn how green plants survive in freezing temperatures.
