By Canoe, Sea Kayak, or Wooden Sailboat

The rocky coast of Maine is a region of unique cultural and natural history with seemingly endless protected bays for exploration. Students travel by canoe, sea kayak, or wooden sailboat, camping at intimate island sites and investigating the diverse rocky-shore ecosystem. Highlights may include watching lobstermen at work or sighting seals, seabirds, and sometimes even porpoises along the way.

Sample Itinerary:
Coastal Canoe to Montsweag Bay &
Surrounding Waters

Day 1:

Arrival and Introductions at Chewonki
Ice breakers and goal-setting
Paddling and camping skills
Day 2:

Paddle to Castle Island in Hocomock Bay
Day 3:

Day paddle to explore coastal bays and coves
Day 4:
Return paddle to Chewonki Neck
Whole group cookout and sharing
Day 5:
Program wrap-up and departure
