Chewonki to offer course in May

Three wilderness medicine courses will be held on the Chewonki campus in Wiscasset in May 2010. Trip leaders, outdoor professionals and outdoor enthusiasts who want sound strategies for dealing with emergency medical situations in wilderness settings benefit from these thorough programs. The internationally renowned staff of Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA) teaches these intensive courses. Instructors combine morning lectures with realistic simulations that are videotaped and critiqued. WMA courses are widely considered the most complete medical training for outdoor professionals.

Please note: These courses fill early. Advance registration is recommended.

May 26-29, 2010
Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA)

Wilderness Advanced First Aid is a comprehensive medical training course designed for outdoor recreationalists or wilderness trip leaders who venture into moderately remote and challenging environments. The content is significantly more detailed than the Wilderness First Aid course, including emphasis on common critical body system problems and environmental topics.
Cost: $375, $495 with room and board. Lodging starts on evening of January 1 for those traveling from afar.

WAFA to WFR Bridge (Wilderness First Responder)

The WAFA to WFR Bridge course upgrades the WMA™ Wilderness Advanced First Aid to a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) in 4 days. This course must be taken within three years of receiving the Wilderness Medical Associates' WAFA certificate. The WFR is the definitive medical training course for all outdoor professionals and enthusiasts.
Cost: $375, $495 with room and board. Lodging starts on evening of January 1 for those traveling from afar.

Cost for those taking both courses to receive a WFR certification: $625, or $875 with full room and board. Room and Board from the evening of Jan 1, to the last day of the course on the 10th.

A $200 non-refundable deposit due upon registration.
