Students have a wide array of educational resources available to them through the Chewonki Foundation programs. On an average day, there are more adult faculty and staff on campus and at lunch than there are students.
These faculty and staff provide a range of programs to other students from Maine and throughout New England.
The Outdoor Classroom faculty lead one to five day environmental education programs for students of all ages. These talented educators join Maine Coast Semester students for meals and lead trips and activities in our Outdoor Program.
Traveling Natural History Programs educators bring wild non-releasable wildlife into classrooms throughout the state of Maine, serving about 35,000 people each year. On Work Program, students may have the chance to help care for these animals and all students have a tour of these facilities as part of the science class, Natural History of the Maine Coast.
Pathways to a Sustainable Future has a range of projects all devoted to exploring more sustainable ways of living. Students have a series of Energy Talks about climate change, biodiesel, solar energy, and hydrogen fuel, all using actual installations on our campus. On work program and through activities students can pursue these topics further.
Maine Coast Semester alumni often return for summer Wilderness Trips or to work as a staff member for Camp Chewonki.
