Maine Coast Semester is located on Chewonki Neck, a 400-acre saltwater peninsula reaching south into the estuarine waters that characterize this region. In midcoast Maine the long sweeping beaches of southern Maine give way to long peninsulas with famed points such as Pemaquid and the popular beaches at Popham and Reid State Parks, both at the mouth of the Kennebec River.
Route 1 provides access to the region including the historic village of Wiscasset, although winding secondary roads are the principal routes to the many famous sites, including Boothbay Harbor, Fort Popham, Damariscotta Mills, and others.
The towns of Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College, Bath, on the Kennebec River, and Rockland, site of the Farnsworth Art Museum provide historical and cultural resources for field trips and activities.
