Financial aid at Maine Coast Semester provides deserving students an opportunity for a high-quality education that might otherwise be unavailable to them.  It is also promotes a well-qualified student body reflecting diverse backgrounds.

The ability to pay full tuition is not a deciding factor in determining whether or not a promising young student is admitted to Maine Coast Semester.  We are eager to share in the cost of education for families with demonstrated need to the best of our ability.

Maine Coast Semester offers need-based aid.  We have established a program based on grants that do not have to be repaid.  Financial aid applies to the cost of tuition, room and board. In the case of extreme hardship, if MCS has the resources, the financial aid committee may also award funds to assist a student with travel, books and equipment.  On request, a family may arrange a payment plan through our business office.  MCS prefers to have the family obligation paid by the completion of the student’s semester.

In a typical year we allocate almost 13% of our total income for financial aid. In most cases, member schools continue their financial aid awards to students attending Maine Coast Semester. Non-member-school students or member-school day students may apply directly to MCS for financial aid.

In order to estimate fairly a family’s ability to pay, we use the forms and analysis system of the School and Student Service for Financial aid. Students may email us or call the Admissions Office at 207-882-7323 ext. 140 to request a copy of the form. Completed Parents’ Financial Statements (PFS) are due February 20th and should be sent directly to Edward Tittmann in our Business Office.

Maine Coast Semester runs deep.  It does not leave you.  It cuts across age and time.  I am still amazed at the ways it has affected and continues to affect my life.
