For the parents of in-camp participants, we request no visitors during the first or last week of the camp program. This allows for a settling-in period, and for a chance at the end to complete a variety of special activities.
You are cordially welcome at other times whenever you can get to Fourth Debsconeag Lake. There are many parents unable to visit their campers (particularly during the three-week sessions). Therefore, don't feel as though you "have" to visit.
Please note we will not be able to accommodate families overnight at our camp on Fourth Debsconeag. Our cabins will be filled this first summer with our support staff. The closest accommodations are located at Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps, http://www.nahmakanta.com/. Additional accommodations can be found in Millinocket and Greenville.
Please let us know when to expect your visit. Otherwise, due to our heavy wilderness trip schedule, you run the substantial risk of your camper not being in camp. Campers are not allowed to leave camp with their parents. We want you to enjoy and get to know the spirit of the camp. When you are visiting, we may be able to invite you to join us for a meal in the dining room. Please ask. You should be aware that we have a No smoking policy for all staff and participants. Visitors may smoke in the visitor's parking area only. Smoking is prohibited throughout the rest of the camp area. We appreciate your understanding and support. Again, please let us know of your visiting plans.
We want families to see and experience the beauty of Fourth Debsconeag Lake. We will be providing a couple of opportunities at the end of the summer and in the fall for families to come visit. Family Camp will be offered Aug. 14th – 17th. More information can be found at our website: http://www.chewonki.org/alumni/family_camp.asp
We will also be renting out the cabins at Debsconeag Wilderness Camps in the fall of 2008. More information can be found at our website: http://www.chewonki.org/about/DebsconeagLakeCamps.asp
