Communication Family to Child Communication
Campers do not have access to computers or telephones while at camp, but they can write letters home. There is something truly special in this age of electronic communication about holding a letter in your hands that was written by those you love the most. Parents are encouraged to write regularly and to write supportive letters that reinforce your love for your child. Aim to time the arrival of your first letter for the first or second full day of camp. News from home is fine, but should downplay all the special events that the child may be missing back home such as family reunions or 4th of July festivities. Letters that focus on the child’s camp experience can be particularly helpful. Please be sure to include your child’s group name in the address. Send mail to: Camper Name/Group Name In cases of family travel, international families, or other circumstances that make it difficult to mail a letter, email may be sent from time to time to girlscamp@chewonki.org. These messages will be printed and delivered to your child, but your child will not be able to reply by email. Family to Camp Leadership Communication Girls Camp summer #: 207-460-5226 Camp Director Genell Vashro, Wilderness Trip Director Greg Shute, and Camp Registrar Ginny Freeman can be reached year-round at the camp office to answer any questions about camp, wilderness trips, and the enrollment process. After acceptance into a program, each family will receive a pre-camp packet with equipment lists, health forms, and travel information. During the summer camp, parents will receive notifications by email of updated parent bulletins on our website. Parents of wilderness trip participants should note that our trips take place in remote wilderness areas and trippers will not be in close contact with office staff. Trippers can send and receive mail during their re-supply, which occurs midway through the trip. During camp, our senior staff will answer parents’ emails and field all phone calls, but please be understanding of the time it may take us to respond during this busy time. We want to work with all parents to ensure that each camper and tripper has a safe and enjoyable summer experience, and chooses the program that best suits their needs. |
