Summer 2007 Staff

Camp Chewonki has numerous strengths, but perhaps our greatest asset is our outstanding leadership and staff. Each summer, a truly superb team assembles to work with our campers. Many of our counselors are former campers themselves, returning to Chewonki because of the wonderful experiences they enjoyed as campers and wilderness trippers. Chewonki enjoys a long legacy of great teachers, leaders, counselors, and camp directors, including the great ornithologist Roger Tory Peterson, known for his inspiring and infectious teaching style, former Camp Director and Executive Director Tim Ellis (1966–1985), and former Camp Director Dick Thomas (1986–2005), who ably led camp before Garth Altenburg took over the reins.
