Alumni and Friends

Chewonki offers a variety of alumni gatherings, at different times of the year. We wholeheartedly invite you to join us for any and all of our alumni events and gatherings. Please stay in touch, get involved, and think of us as your family away from home!

A gathering at the home of Karen and Kevin Kennedy in New York City.

More than a hundred people gathered on Chewonki Neck on September 5 to help celebrate the launch of the public phase of our campaign. Staff, alumni, and friends of all ages gathered in Chapin Hall on a beautiful evening for hors d’oeuvres, tours of the newly renovated Wallace Center, a warm welcome from Board chair Josh Marvil, a slide show, and remarks from Don Hudson.

Another celebration followed on October 15 at the Boston Museum of Science, where more than 150 people enjoyed a spectacular OMNI Film, followed by celebratory food and drink, a slide show, and plenty of lively conversation.

On October 22, Chewonki staff members traveled to The Yale Club in New York City for the final of our three campaign kickoff parties. National Public Radio personality and Living On Earth Executive Producer Steve Curwood gave an enlivened and interactive discussion about global climate change and a sustainable path for our planet. We hosted more than 130 guests in New York, including alumni and former staff of both camp and the Maine Coast Semester.

Another wonderful gathering was held at the home of Karen and Kevin Kennedy in New York City and hosted by their son Coleman.

All of the gatherings provided a marvelous opportunity for Chewonki friends to come together, see old friends, meet new friends and share memories of walks to the waterfront, polar bear dips, and great adventures with Chewonki.

More events will follow in the coming months, so be sure to check our website for updates. If you would like to host a gathering in your area, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Dick Thomas, director of alumni relations, at dthomas@chewonki.org or at 207-882-7323.
