Please note, Family Camp 2008 is full. Please check back next spring for Family Camp 2009.

Family Camp 2008 will be held at our newest facility, Debsconeag Wilderness Lake Camps, home of Camp Chewonki for Girls!

This summer, families will have the rare opportunity to venture north to Fourth Debsconeag Lake in the heart of Maine’s North Woods for Chewonki’s second annual Family Camp. We’ve “cleared the decks” to allow families and individuals the opportunity to enjoy a truly unique camp experience. Debsconeag Wilderness Camps is just 12 miles south as the crow flies from Chewonki's Big Eddy Campground, situated within the Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area, and part of a vast protected wilderness that lies between Greenville and Millinocket. (Click here for a map of the area).)

Share a lakeside cabin with your family; enjoy delicious meals in our dining lodge; reminisce with old friends and meet new families; explore the forest and granite ledges that surround the rustic cabins and waterfront. Join in one of the staff-led activities or choose to explore on your own. There will be plenty of time for fun and relaxation, including:

  • Hiking nearby trails for views of Baxter State Park
  • Hiking on the nearby Appalachian Trail
  • Exploring Nesuntabunt Mountain
  • Canoeing
  • Fishing
  • Learning about the area’s rich natural history
  • Swimming in the clear, pristine lake.

The camp is accessed on logging roads and parking is limited. We'll meet participants in Greenville and a staff member will drive you and your family the remaining miles in a Chewonki vehicle.
