SOLAR PANEL CHALLENGE!
How Green is Your Semester?
Go head-to-head in our Solar Panel Challenge!
Chewonki is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and you can help us achieve our goals. A first step is to change all of our electricity consumption – responsible for 15% of our carbon emissions – to green power, including generation from renewable sources on Chewonki Neck. Our newest cabin, Gordy Hall, sports three 200-watt panels, which more than meet the demands of that cabin. We have space for twenty-one more panels on that roof; MCS Alumni, let's fill those racks! Together we can make Gordy Hall into a 4.8 kilowatt powerplant to supply Osprey Circle and the Center for Environmental Education with green electricity. Any additional panels donated will grace the Allen Center (formerly known as the Natural History Center) roof nearby.
The Challenge – Each semester that raises $1,500 will have a 200-watt panel installed on their behalf.
How to Donate – Designate donations as “Solar Panel Challenge” with your semester number or date (e.g. MCS 19 or fall 1997). Call us, send a check by mail, or donate online.
(The current challenge is for alumni only. For parents and friends interested in contributing to Chewonki, please visit our website and link to “Support Our Work” for a range of ways to help us fulfill our mission. Thank you!)
