In 2008, Chewonki became the proud new owner of Debsconeag Lake Wilderness Camps, situated within a vast protected wilderness area that lies roughly between Greenville and Millinocket. The camp sits on a beautiful, protected, wooded shoreline that provides privacy, abundant wildlife, and endless opportunities for exploration, discovery, and fun!
The camp is also the site of Chewonki's new girls camp. The girls camp runs from June through mid-August and is closed to business during that time. However, we invite guests to join us in the spring and fall seasons.
We are situated in an exquisite chain of lakes and ponds designated and permanently protected as an ecological reserve. The old sporting camps on Fourth Debsconeag Lake date back to the early 1900s when then Vice President Theodore Roosevelt visited the region with his family to hunt bear.
