Chewonki’s Sustainability office was established in 1992 with the writing of a teachers’ guide on solid waste management for the Maine Waste Management Agency.

In 1994, we worked on The Wild Gulf Project in collaboration with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Gulf of Maine Aquarium, and the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve. Since that time, the Sustainability Office has taken on a number of new projects, including biodiesel, renewable hydrogen, solar heat, solar electricity and a poster series concerning issues of sustainability. We invite you to learn about our work and sign up for a tour or lesson if you would like to know more!
