Green Schools Alliance (http://www.greenschoolsalliance.org) Chewonki announced in 2010 that it became one of two Maine schools, including The Waynflete School, to join the Green Schools Alliance (GSA). The GSA is a coalition of more than 130,000 public and private schools across the country that are active participants in the global effort to conserve resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. GSA provides a menu of opportunities that engage all members of the school community including students, administrators, faculty, plant managers, business officers and parents. GSA works in collaboration with public and private partnerships, agencies and other organizations to provide an infrastructure and methodology to quantify success and expedite change.

Teens to Trails (http://www.teenstotrails.org/sara_scholarship.html) is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to increasing the opportunities for Maine teens to get into the out-of-doors and form their own personal connection with nature.  They are increasing public awareness of the importance of that connection to a teenager’s mental and physical well-being as we battle against Nature-Deficit Disorder. Chewonki has partnered with them since their inception in 2006.

Maine Island Trail Association (www.mita.org/) Chewonki staff served on the founding Board of Directors, and staff work closely on use of Chewonki-owned islands

Northern Forest Canoe Trail (www.northernforestcanoetrail.org), Chewonki staff served on founding Board of Directors.

Maine Woods Forever (www.thoreauwabanakitrail.org) Chewonki staff served on founding Board of Directors and work on projects like the creation of the Thoreau Wabanaki Trail

Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment (www.gulfofmaine.org) Chewonki staff people have served on the Public Education Participation Committee and currently serve on the Maine delegation to the Council.  Chewonki's Wild Gulf Project (1994-2000) served as one of the templates for the current web portal for the Council, notably the database of people and resources in the Gulf of Maine watershed (www.gulfofmaine.org/people_finder/)

Maine Environmental Education Association (www.meeassociation.org) Chewonki staff have served on the Board of Directors of MEEA since its founding in 1979/1980, and Chewonki has hosted nearly half of the annual meetings since the inception of the organization.

Maine Wilderness Guides Organization (www.mwgo.org) Chewonki staff have served on the founding Board of Directors, and have helped organize annual workshops and events.

Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (www.mrra.us) a Chewonki staff person currently serves on the Board of Trustees of this authority created to oversee the redevelopment of Naval Air Station Brunswick.  As MRRA intends that the new Brunswick Landing will be a "green science and technology center", a formal link with Chewonki's Office of Sustainability will be established.

International Appalachian Trail (www.internationalat.org) a Chewonki staff person has served on the Maine Chapter Board of Directors since the creation of the IAT in 1994, and a Chewonki summer camp group will be the first organized group to hike along a new 30-mile trail section east of Baxter State Park in July 2010.

Maine Audubon Society (www.maineaudubon.org) Chewonki staff people have served on the Board of Directors over the years, and a Chewonki staff person has organized the Christmas Bird Count for the Merrymeeting Audubon chapter in the Lower Kennebec and Sheepscot River area since 1985. The Earth Charter (http://www.earthcharterinaction.org) On May 11, 2002, The Chewonki Foundation Board of Trustees unanimously voted to adopt the Earth Charter, a declaration of fundamental principles for a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society in the twenty-first century. In addition, Chewonki was the proud sponsor of an academic symposium, Teaching for the Environment in Higher Education, The Promise of the Earth Charter, held at Chewonki the

Green Campus Consortium of Maine (http://www.megreencampus.com) Chewonki is a charter member of this dynamic group of Maine colleges and universities that are working hard to make their campuses more environmentally friendly.

Maine Green House Gas Initiative (http://www.maine.gov/dep/air/greenhouse/rggi.htm) In June 2003, the Maine State Legislature passed a bill charging the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) with developing an action plan with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from state sources. The Chewonki Foundation was part of the thirty-member Stakeholder Advisory Group whose purpose was to advise the DEP on how best to meet the required emissions reductions of 1990 levels by 2010.
