The
Big Eddy Campground is a spectacular property located
four hours to the north of our campus, offering magnificent opportunities
for Chewonki participants. Big Eddy is located near Maine’s premier
wilderness, Baxter State Park, and the state’s highest mountain,
Katahdin. The land surrounding the campground is a vast sweep
of forest, dotted with lakes and ledge and cut by one of the
most fabled rivers in Maine, the West Branch of the Penobscot.
This is a land rich in human and natural history and a landscape
boundless in wilderness opportunities. The campground is nestled
on the shores of the Penobscot -- a magical location and an exceptional
resource for all Chewonki participants.
Big Eddy Campground is open to the public from mid-May to mid-October and takes reservations for camping throughout the year. Please click here to visit the Big Eddy website.
